Most of the time I do, yes, though like all jobs there are good bits and bad bits!

Yeah I really enjoy it. For a few years I worked in another job, publishing medical magazines, but this is so much better. Every day I can wake up and think “what shall I try and discover today”. It’s very liberating.

I love being a scientist! It allows me to be creative as well as discovering new things. I like my research and I also like teaching science.

There are some bads things like all jobs, like when an experiment you have been working on for a long time doesn’t work, or someone else publishes work very similar to something you have been working on.

I also enjoy my work a lot. I’m my own boss, I can choose the questions I work on, and I can be creative and play around with different methods. I also get to meet lots of people from around the world, which I really enjoy. But like Sam says, there are downsides. It is hard to convince the funding agencies to give you money for your research, for example. And getting a permanent job at Uni is also not easy in the current economic climate.

I agree with everyone else here. I enjoy it most of the time. There are bad days when nothing you do will seem to work and everything you try makes things worse, but usually you realise you was doing something really silly and have a laugh about it afterwards.
