• Question: why do people ask what sex is. Is it when people lv each other and want to show there by having sex. Well i havnt satred my period yet but if do dse your hips get wider coz if they do dose that mean iam curvy looool and can you get pregant when you have ur period and when you dont

      Well we’ve had some of these questions before. Here is an answer I wrote to the question “what is sex?”

      This is a biological definition of sex for reproduction, though. Sex in humans is more complicated because it has a lot of social features in addition to being for reproduction. One of which, as you suggest, is when people love each other and want to show it by having sex.

      I don’t know for certain whether the hips of girls get wider during puberty but I imagine the answer is yes. As for whether you can get pregnant, here is an excellent answer by Ed to someone previously asking what the chances are of getting pregnant from unprotected sex:

      There are sort of two meanings of sex. One is what biologists mean when two cells fuse together to produce a new individual. Most lifeforms reproduce in this way including plants.

      The other is the actual act of sexual reproduction, which I will leave your parents and teachers to tell you about!

      When girls go through puberty, their hips do get wider because they produce more fat around the hips and buttocks. This is preparation for having a baby in the future.
